Reunion in The Tunnels

Phase wiped his eyes and let go of Jade, "I'll explain everything later. It must be said in private. No one else must know what has happened."

Then his eyes turned to Stryke, watching him draw his tag on the tunnel wall. Phase saw a strange glint of green come from Stryke's eyes.

So he was a demon....

Why had Jade befriended him? The last he knew, Jade utterly despised demons. What was going on? Oh well, the important thing was to get home.

Phase then snuck up to Stryke, making no sound. The Tunnels were actually one of Phase's favorite hiding spots and he knew them well.

"Stryke, eh? Good name for a demon." Phase said softly while standing close behind Stryke.

Stryke turned around suddenly and inhaled sharply when he found how closely Phase was standing to him. Stryke froze when he heard that the man knew he was a demon. *SHIT.* he thought to himself as he stood there frozen, with his face towards the ground. *How did he figure out I was a demon?!* he questioned himself as he frantically tried to say something.

"Ah, er, yeah... thanks." Stryke replied. He frowned at his response and his body shivered a bit as a soft breeze wafted through the dank subway tunnels. He realized that there was no way out and that his only chance of making it out without a fight would be to just admit his species.

"How did you figure out?" he asked softly as he walked over towards Jade, motioning for them to continue to The Complex. "Not everybody figures out that I'm a demon in the first 10 minutes that I've met them"

Phase laughed a little at Stryke's fear.

"Don't worry, I'm not gonna hurt you. Besides, you seem like a nice enough guy...I mean obviously since Jade there hasn't showed any hatred towards you. You must be different. But be careful. Just because you've befriended us so far doesn't mean we completely trust you."

Phase gave Stryke a dangerous look that said, "Don't mess with us," as his eyes flashed in the darkness. But after that he smiled a little and walked over to Jade and said to Stryke,

"Oh, we two have pretty good senses. We know virtually everybody and what they are. When you're exposed to these kinds of people for so long you tend to just know from instinct. Especially Jade here, she can really tell who a person is. Isn't that right Jade?"

Phase asked Jade with a slight nudge and a wink.

Jade's senses still hadn't fully recovered. She gathered up some of the clothes that had fallen into the corridor and blinked, slightly dazed by the hit she had taken. When Phase nudged her she was shaken out of her daze a bit more and she offered up a weak smile. "Only when we choose to," she said with a tired voice.

Jade wrapped her arms around Phase's neck and tears rolled silently down her cheeks onto his shoulder. She buried her face into the nape of his neck and took in his scent. He always smelled like the secret spots in the city. She missed him. She hadn't known what she was going to do when he left her. Now that he was back her world of possibilities was opening back up.

"You came home." She smiled at him slightly and began to feel the city again. So much had happened while she was shut off to the world. She looked over at Stryke and finally figured it out. The demon didn't know anything about the abnormalities withing the city. "Phase," she started as she looked back and forth between the two of them. "Morgana's in the city tonight... and so is someone else. We need to get home and get some rest. I have a feeling some strange events are upon us."

"Yes, I came home. I could only stay away for so long. I'm so sorry I didn't tell you why I left. I'll explain all that later." Said Phase, hugging Jade and stroking her hair.

"But I agree. We need to get home and get rest...we need to figure out what's going on here. I suppose if Morgana is here she'll want to talk to us sometime soon. Let's get going."

At that Phase looked over at Stryke, Stryke's green eyes showing through the darkness.

"Don't worry man, we'll be allright. You'll eventually figure things out. If not...well then...we're on floor seven. But remember my warning..." Phase said looking into Stryke's eyes at the end of his sentance.

Their eyes met and something snapped in Phase. He twitched violently and he broke out in a cold sweat. His knees buckled and he almost fell to the ground but Jade was supporting him. A look of terror came across his face and he muttered some words...

"No!....No!....Not here!......Get it away!...."

After a few moments Phase recovered and looked at Jade and whispered to her.

"We need to go...now. Please...." A pleading tone ringing in his voice.

Stryke was really frustrated now. He had two strange people talking to him and obviously they knew something he didn't.

He approached the couple, his frustration creating extra radiant body heat. His eye glowed a bit brighter as he inhaled a small breath.

"What the HELL are you FUCKING TALKNG ABOUT!? Who in Anroya's name is Morgana and what 'Strange' events!?" He fumed at them. If the lights had been brighter, they would have seen small entrails of steam rising from Stryke's head.

He stood there panting as the demonic blood hyper actively rushed through his veins and heated the air around him.

"Seriously!" he exclaimed, "Who do you THINK you are!? Some magical creatures from psychic land who can just tell that I'm a demon?!" As Stryke remembered Phase's discovery he realized what these 'people' could be and he slowly started to edge backwards thinking, "What else do they know about me?" a shiver ran through his body as he pushed away the oncoming flow of childhood memories.

Distracted by his own thoughts, Stryke tripped over a pop can and stumbled to the ground. He looked up at Phase and Jade with worry in his green eyes.

Phase started at Stryke's sudden anger, a strange heat seemed to come from nowhere. As Stryke came closer Phase suddenly snapped.

"Look buddy! You should just mind your own fucking business before something bad happens!"
Shouted Phase baring his fangs and a small glint of red showing in his eyes.

"I wouldn't worry youself on who Morgana is, in fact you should just even forget you heard that name. You'd be best not knowing it. So I'd calm down if I were you, demon. As for who we are, You don't need to worry too much about that either. Like I said, you'll figure things out sooner or later, but if not Jade and I are up on the seventh floor. Feel free to come ask some questions if you really feel the need to."

Phase was approaching Stryke as Stryke tripped over the pop can and fell to the groun. Phase stood over the demon, averting his eyes from Stryke's and bared his fangs.

"Heh, some demon...Let's go Jade."

And with that Phase took off at a run and grabbed Jade's hand as he passed her and pulled her in the direction of the Complex.

Jade glanced eagerly back and forth between her best friend and the demon standing in the tunnel beside them. What had gotten into Phase? He was never quite so hostile before... had he gotten into some sort of trouble while he was away? What had happened to him? As Phase grabbed her arm she gave one last glance back at the creature who had been so quick to help her.

Phase pulled her farther and farter into the tunnels closer to home as they went. Finally she pulled back from his grasp and dropped her basket of clothes to the floor. "Stop Phase! Just STOP!" She looked into his eyes and felt relieved yet still confused and a bit frightened. She took him into her arms and squeezed him tight. "What's going on with you, Phase?"

Phase stops and looks into Jade's eyes, small swirls of red in his eyes. Then suddenly his eyes open wide and he falls to the ground shaking and breathing quickly.

"I...I...I don't know. It's just.....I don't know."

Phase shivers on his hands and knees and looks up into Jade's eyes imploringly.

"Help me, Jade."

Jade watched her best friend writhing on the floor. She didn't know what kind of trouble Phase had gotten into but obviously he needed her to do something. What? What could she possibly do when she didn't know what the problem was? She dropped the laundry basket to the floor of the tunnel and bent down over Phase.

"Come on, let's get home, Phase." She put an arm under his shoulders and hoisted him up from the ground. "Maybe we can figure things out better there..." She nudged him along and picked up her basket again. As they walked he leaned on her slightly and, though she was only bearing it because her friend had a terrible problem, the weight was comforting to her.

Nearing the staircase to The Complex, felt a greater weight against her temples thank that of Phase on her shoulder. What lay ahead in the dimly lit hallways of the complex?

Stryke pulled himself off the ground and dusted the grime and soot off his clothes. Thoughts were drifting in his mind, about the couple, about what was wrong with the guy. He saw them heading towards the end of the tunnel that lead towards the Complex.

Figuring he should be getting home, Stryke quietly followed after the two. He had to get home as well and was really looking forwards to crashing on his couch.

Phase lets Jade help him up the stairs as his body trembles a little still.

"Maybe we can, although, I think we need to figure out why Morgana is here."

The pair walked in silence as they ascended the stairs and into the Complex
